Keep You Close by @karencleve #Netgalley #Book #Review

An FBI official's sense of right and wrong is blurred when her own son is accused of the unimaginable in this heart-pounding thriller from the New York Times bestselling author of Need to Know.

Stephanie Maddox makes tough decisions every day. She has her hands full heading the FBI's Internal Investigations division, policing wrongdoers within the Bureau. But, as a single mother, the most important thing in her life is her teenage son Zachary, who's anxiously awaiting college acceptance letters. So when she discovers a gun concealed in Zach's room, her world reels. And then an FBI agent on the domestic terrorism squad shows up at her door and utters three devastating words: "It's about Zachary. . . ."
Has she been wrong about her near-perfect son? Is Zach embroiled in something criminal--something deadly? And, if so, what is her greater duty: To protect him? Or to protect her country?

Purchase: Amazon

My Review: Steph Maddox is a brilliant member of the FBI. She's had a quiet life since she's moved to Washington, but as she prepares for her son to go away to college. His teenaged secrecy takers new heights, apparently Zach has figured out who his father is and no longer confides in her. When she suspects that the Russians are to blame for the murders of her coworkers and disappearance of others, she must fight her way out of this nightmare and oddly Zachary is mixed up in the middle of it all.

This was an action filled thiller.  I was on the edge of my seat throughout the novel.  It had many twists and kept me guessing until the very end.

Cold Dream Dawning by @arkahler #Book #Review

Though trained as a ruthless and efficient killer, Claire barely survived her last assignment. Still reeling from the summoning of the deadly Pale Queen and Roxie’s betrayal, she’s unprepared for Queen Mab’s next demand: to help uncover a new threat to the kingdom, Claire must hunt down the mortal mother she’s never known.

But Claire’s divided loyalties may be the least of her worries: her mother, the former star of the Immortal Circus, has other enemies—including the Summer King. To save the Winter Kingdom from the Pale Queen’s dark designs, Claire must attempt to awaken her mother’s hidden magic. But even if she succeeds, is there magic potent enough to protect her from the dangers lurking in the treacherous forests of the Wildness—or from the shadows in her own heart?
Purchase: Amazon

My Review:
This is book two of The Pale Queen series.  In book one we're introduced to Claire, Winter Fairy Queen Mab's adopted daughter and trained assassin.  In this portion, Claire is no longer finding out who is stealing "Dream", she is now hunting down the Pale Queen in order to save Winter and Summer.  In order to do this, she must find her biological mother, The Oracle.

This story had me completely enraptured!  I love all of the magic involved, especially Claire's since she's a mortal.  I also enjoy Eli, he's always saving her life.  This novel has tons of nonstop action and even twists you don't see coming....time for book 3. :)

The Rumour by @LesleyKara #Netgalley #Book #Review

There's a killer among us.

That's all it takes.

She stabbed little Robbie Harris.

To change a life -

She's living under a new name.

For ever.

She's reformed. So they say . . .

Joanna is going to regret the day she ever said a word.
Pre-Order: Amazon

My Review:
Sometimes rumors can get out of hand.  After all, everyone has to put their own spin on it. Joanna's innocent rumor she'd started took on a life of it's own. Eventually, everyone she knows becomes suspect.

I honestly didn't expect a story about rumors to be as interesting as this novel was.  It was jaw droppingly suspenseful and left me on the edge of my seat until the very end.  I absolutely loved it and look forward to more writings from this author.

About the Author:
Lesley Kara lives on the North Essex coast in the UK. When her children started school, she studied at Greenwich University, London, and trained as a teacher. She worked for many years as a lecturer and manager in a large college of further education in London, but now writes full-time.
