commander hg blast banner
Commander Henry Gallant - EBookHe thought Alaina loved him, but now she’s found someone else. A tidal wave of loss and grief swept over Henry Gallant, leaving him undecided about what to do next, or how to move forward.

Despite his sorrow, he goes on a dangerous mission to an invading aliens’ home world in the Gliese-581 star system. There he uses a neural interface to penetrate their communication network and steal a high ranking alien’s identity. Through this artifice he learns about their history and society, and discovers a way to hinder and possibly defeat them.

A side-effect of linking into the alien network—which was created for autistic savants—is that Gallant’s mind was stimulated and enhanced to the point where he begins to experience superintelligence abilities.

Upon returning from his mission, there is concern that Gallant might pose an even more serious threat than the aliens. While he struggles to fend off those who doubt his loyalty, he fights to win back Alaina.

This is the fourth book of The Henry Gallant Saga, but it can be read as a standalone story.

Reviews: 5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Dystopian Fantasy By Ellen P. Lafleche-Christian I’m a big fan of fantasy fiction provided it isn’t super sweet and cute and I am so glad I read The Labyrinth Wall. The Labyrinth Wall is a great adventure with a dystopian fantasy feel. Ariana and Darith go from one exciting adventure to another which makes the book impossible to put down. There is a constant quest to learn whether there is really something better outside the labyrinth walls. If you enjoy books like The Hobbit (with a slightly lighter feel), you will definitely enjoy The Labyrinth Wall by Emilyann Girdner. I can’t wait to read the next book. 4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Adventure By Desert Rose Reviews I enjoy books about puzzles, mysteries, riddles, adventure and suspense. Some of the best books for those ingredients are stories involving a labyrinth. There aren't many books that deliver the same kind of entertainment and excitement as a well-written labyrinth adventure. This is one such book, and is one I really enjoyed.

Buy on Amazon

My Review:
I received a free copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

Yumi Matthews has been haunted by the disappearance of her brother ten years ago. It's as if he dropped off of the face of the earth. While as she works as a private investigator reuniting families with their loved ones, she's been unable to uncover any clues leading to her missing brother...until now.  While investigating a murder, she finds a recent and blurry photo of what she thinks is her brother.  This new piece of evidence puts her on a dangerous path. Will she find her missing brother? How is he involved in these bizarre murderers.

This was a really great book with lots of unexpected twists and turns.  You could feel Yumi's distress and confusion at finding the picture of Sean. There's tons of action and this is a fast paced page turner.  There's even a hint of a possible romance between Yumi and Ash.  The only downside to this novel is that it is book one of a series so we are left with lots of unanswered questions. All in all, a fantastic mystery!
About the author:
Amber CHorror, Fantasy, Humor

Nothing thrills me more than a wonderful blend of those three elements, and that’s what I strive to bring to the words in my books: whether it’s an urban fantasy suspense/mystery, or a fantasy short story taking the reader down a dark and wayward road. Life is rarely so black and white to be just any one of these things, and humor can be as dark as it can be light.

It also has a great way of cutting the tension, even if not everyone finds it funny. That’s okay. It’s good that we’re all different in the end.

But, no need to fret. I try to incorporate my own weird, and probably twisted humor, into the things I discuss. Some are things that catch my fancy that I just need to share, others are serious topics that I can’t help myself but state. Most times, they will be the little things that inspire me to keep writing. I pull inspiration from my shows, movies, and games (video, board, and tabletop RPGs). The littlest thing can spark my brain into running a marathon disseminating the information until it resembles what it needs it to.

I want to share my passions in this world, and that’s more than just my own writings. I love to be engrossed by a world that let’s me walk its own twisted paths. It doesn’t have to be glamorous, and it doesn’t have to be happy. But it has to be a good story, and the best stories have to be shared. I want to share my best stories with you, and I want to share the stories by others that move me.

My Review:
I received a free copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

The Road Home is book two of The Letter series.  In this portion, Jeanie Arthur has passed away.  During the funeral, Katherine and Tommy learn that during their separation from their mother, she had touched and influenced many lives.  They quickly realize that they didn't really know the woman that they called mother.  Secrets are revealed that opens their eyes and gives them a glimpse into the years they were apart.

This was a heart rending story of love and hope.  I loved the way they all turned to God during their most difficult times.  Katherine's strength and determination is see inspiring, when she finally realizes her amazing gift, she embraces it wholeheartedly.  Tommy's love for his family and drive to succeed is wonderful.  I thought this novel was absolutely awesome, the characters were courageous, and the story came back full circle.  I can't wait for book three to answer a few questions that are still lingering.

Courage Resurrected Book Review

Ray Courage’s wife Pam died thirteen years before in a car accident. Or did she? Ray’s world is turned upside down when he receives a series of e-mails from someone claiming to be his dead wife, accusing him of attempting to kill her and vowing revenge. Ray sets out to find the identity of the e-mailer only to discover the circumstances of his wife’s apparent death appear to be all but accidental. Soon Police Detective Carla Thurber comes to suspect Ray of killing his wife, and of a subsequent murder of Pam’s confidant. Meanwhile, a murderous predator who does not want the facts of Pam’s death to surface aims to stop Ray. In the greatest challenge of his life, Ray must outrun the police and elude those who are out to kill him as he seeks the truth about his wife’s death.
Purchase: Amazon

My Review:

I received a free copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

Courage Resurrected is book three in the Ray Courage Mystery series.  The story begins thirteen years earlier with Ray's wife visibly upset and driving around to avoid going home.  She suddenly senses she's being followed.  The scene switches to present day, on the thirteenth anniversary of Pam Courage's death.  Ray receives a cryptic email message from someone claiming to be Pam and accusing him of trying to kill her.  What he began to think was a prank causes him to investigate her accident on his own.  Was it really an accident or did someone murder her?  If so, why?  The reemergence of someone claiming to be his wife has not opened old wounds but a trail of death along the way.

This was a fantastic mystery that kept me guessing until the very end.  There were so many plausible reasons for her death, but the truth will definitely surprise you.  The reason is even more shocking.  All in all, Courage Resurrected is a fast paced action packed mystery everyone will love!

Fractured Not Broken Book Review and Giveaway

A Real Life Story of Heroic Virtue Parts of this memoir appeared on ESPN and in Rosie

Warsaw, Indiana
July 08, 2015

Award-winning and best-selling author, Michelle Weidenbenner, announces the release of Kelly Schaefer’s memoir, Fractured Not Broken.

Years ago, parts of Kelly’s story appeared on ESPN and in Rosie, but now Kelly reveals the rest of the story in her new book, Fractured Not Broken.

Nineteen-year-old Kelly had it all—a healthy and athletic body, a star basketball-player boyfriend, and a fun college life with close friends.

But everything changed when a drunk driver rendered her a quadriplegic.

Kelly was left with arms and legs that couldn’t move. She couldn’t walk, write, feed herself or comb her hair. When she thought she couldn’t lose anything more—her boyfriend left her, unwilling to endure a life with a quad.

Through her darkest days of loss and pain, her family and community gathered together to push her forward, to help her persevere. With their help, Kelly moved closer to God and toward a faith she’d never had.

“Miracles come in many obscure moments,” Kelly said. “I spent most of my life awaiting my big break. I expected my miracle to be in the form of a pill, injection, or surgery that would enable my spine to heal and give me the mobile freedom I prayed for, but that didn’t happen.

“Kristen Jongen’s quote says it all:
“‘My miracle came unannounced, and in an odd package. It looked different from what I imagined--untimely, unexpected, unpretentious--yet it fit perfectly. Divinely constructed solely for me.’"

Fractured Not Broken is a memoir of loss and faith, but it’s also a love story that sounds like fiction.

My Review:
I received a free copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

Fractured Not Broken is the inspiring Christian Memoir of Kelly Craig Schaeffer, a young woman with a bright future turned quadriplegic after a near fatal car accident which claimed two other teenagers and caused irreparable brain damage to Kelly's brother, Jason.  Through it all Kelly focuses on God's will for her life as she embarks upon a life of new experiences.

The first half of this story had me in tears as I saw many parallels in her disabled life and my own.  I have spent many days wondering where God is in this situation or that circumstance, and for once it feels great to know that I'm not alone, that we serve an amazing and mighty God.  We may not receive the healing that we expect, sometimes it can be as simple as an opportunity availing itself, or maybe it's just our broken spirit that needs the strength to continue to fight. I don't think when Kelly and Michelle wrote this book together that they had intended to heal someone's broken spirit.  I commend you both on restoring my hope for the future.  I honestly thought my world was over, but because of you I now see that my story has only just begun.

“Life has its tragic moments of defeat, setbacks, and fracturing for everyone. Kelly's story proves, however, that individual momentum, personal progress, and genuine achievement can still be attained. Her courage and optimism are uplifting. Open these pages and experience the joy of ultimate victory.” —Dr. Dennis E. Hensley, Author of Jesus in All Four Seasons

“This book has been a true encouragement to me. Thank you Kelly for sharing your story— the loss and the unexpected joy— so that each reader can be uplifted knowing there is a full, rich life available to those who lean in to our Lord Jesus.” —Renee Bondi, Award-Winning Singer and Songwriter

“This is a real life story of heroic virtue—especially of courage, humility, and generosity—a triumph of faith, hope and love. This story involves the very essence of the human spirit, family, and community. To know Kelly and her journey of miracles is to know that with God all things are possible.” —Most Reverend Charles C. Thompson Bishop of Evansville

This book will fracture the paradigms of the goals and expectations we set for ourselves and others. Kelly’s words will change how readers think of people with disabilities and bring hope to readers who have lost faith in finding true love.

Weidenbenner’s other novels include Cache a Predator, Scattered Links, and an early chapter book series for girls called Éclair.

Kelly is a teacher, speaker, Young Life mentor and a Skittles lover. She brings fun to her classroom and inspires others every day with her faith and positive attitude.

Michelle, her aunt, feels blessed to be the one to write and share Kelly’s story. Although this is Michelle’s first nonfiction project, it was heart-felt inspired like her novels.

Worth of Souls excerpt

WORTHOFSOULSbooktour
Check out the Book Trailer. Bonnie R Paulson plays the mother!!

Cost of Survival, Book #1

COSfrontAnger isn’t an emotion anymore, it’s more of a survival mode I can’t afford to let go.

My dad predicted World War III would happen in his life, but he died two years before… with my brother…

…before Mom and I walked in search of refuge from the bombing.

Strengthened by her faith, Mom never feels alone. But me? I don’t know what to believe or where to turn. Someone once said keep your friends close and your enemies closer, but I disagree. Friends scare me the most. They know me and my mom. Nothing about them is safe.

The ones in charge… Control everything…

Crud, I’ve started crying because I’m scared I won’t survive World War III. But a bigger part of me is scared I will.

My mom is bleeding in my arms and she’s making me promise to follow her three rules.
Pray. Don’t trust anyone. Stay alive.

How long do I need to break all three?

Exchange Rate, Book #2

exchangerateI’m pregnant and I couldn’t be more excited. But the community Bodey, his dad, and I live in has rules. Rules that make Mom’s rules seem like safety nets.

Only 200 people are allowed at a time. My baby will make it 201.

The leader is making me choose someone from our house to die so there will be room for my child. Either I make the decision or they take… my…

Even in the craziness that the world has become, I refuse to believe only 200 can live in it at once.

The “community” is safe-ish, comfortable. We have food, warmth, and there isn’t immediate danger of being robbed while we sleep.

Doesn’t it make sense we’d have to exchange something for all that?

I’ve survived this long. Maybe that’s enough. Maybe I should die so my family can live. Or maybe I can get through the lines and find a people worth sacrificing for.

Worth of Souls, Book #3

WOSfront Running for my life and six months pregnant, I’m terrified but confident in my decisions. With my love and family behind me, captured by the same man who chases me, I have only a small window to find help. The baby needs to come out eventually.Nobody said the end of the world would define people so much. Everywhere I turn I have to prove my worth.Mom was gone before I learned my value lay in my eyes. Not others. But how would that save Bodey? How could my worth change how the world me spins? If I can’t figure it out, everyone I love will die, trapped in a place where even following the rules won’t protect us.

Excerpt
If karma had been a true belief of mine, I would be comfortable knowing I’d shot that guy.

Those men had been about to do something even more horrible than kidnapping and beating my mom and karma had come along and taken my accidental shot and shoved the bullet into a leg.

If I believed karma had a role, I couldn’t say I would feel too bad at that point.
I shrugged. “No, like I said, I aimed for the ground. I didn’t want to hurt anyone, only scare them, you know? Make them think I meant it?” In the movies actions like that always went well. Why couldn’t mine work?

Mom chuckled and bit into her sandwich again. I raised mine, hungry and yet still nervous all at once.

“Your first shot on a living thing is what’s bothering you. Plus, you’re so much like your dad. Let me guess, you’re wondering if that guy had deserved to be shot, right? Or maybe now that you did what you did, what’s going to happen to you?” She watched me, waiting for my answer.

I nodded, hunkering my shoulders in shame I didn’t want to feel. “I wanted to save you, but I was hoping to do it without hurting anyone.” Plus, what if they ignored Mom’s warning and they came after us? Two men against two petite-sized women? We would be screwed.

“Well, you did save me. I’m going to rely on the Old Testament’s teachings right now and hold to the practice of an eye-for-an-eye.” She paused, looking down at her sandwich and inhaling heavily. Lowering her sandwich to her lap, her gaze met mine. “Okay, I’m sorry. That’s not what I meant. I don’t want to exact revenge on anyone. I…” she picked at the seam of her pants, pinching and rolling the small amount of excess material. “You’re not ready to be on your own yet. Those men are nothing compared to what I can only imagine is out there for us to face.” She shook her head. “You’re not ready.”

“Mom, I’m stronger than you think. I promise I can handle more. You don’t need to worry about me.” How did I tell her I’d already been kissed? Kids at school teased me about still having my V-card, but that wasn’t anyone’s business. I wasn’t rolling over for just anyone.  And the boys at my school were just anyone. Unless of course you count Bodey Christianson. Seriously, the boy was smart as heck and hot, too. But I didn’t count him because he didn’t go to my school technically. Did he count, if he was dead?

“Why did you leave your sleeping bag? How did those guys get you?” I played with the plastic corner of my baggie. I hadn’t asked yet because the full import of how much danger we’d been in hadn’t disappeared from my nerves.

Mom blushed. “I had to use the bathroom. I told you not to drink too much water and I almost emptied my canteen. I walked a little ways away so I wouldn’t wake you and wasn’t paying attention. Didn’t even take my gun.” She shook her head. “All that preaching about camp rules and safety and I’d abandoned every single one of them.”

What Lies Behind Book #Review

Synopsis:
A gripping, dark science fiction romance by International Bestseller, Travis Simmons.

Cass is a robot with a past. A past she can’t remember.

When her current owner, Natalia starts taking out her frustration on Cass her memories come back little by little.
What she wants more than anything is to be like humans; an android. To be loved and to feel and to be treated as an equal. Not an automaton like she is.

She finds that in Brandon.

Brandon is Natalia’s boyfriend, and couldn’t be any different from Natalia if he tried. He treats Cass like an equal, like a human, and more importantly like a woman.
Cass just wants a normal human life like Brandon promises, but as more and more of her memories come flooding back, she learns that she might play a bigger part in the android equal rights movement than she wants. Her future is uncertain. Becoming an android, becoming more human, will mean going against her programming. Can she do that? Will her struggle to become an android ultimately be her undoing?

"In this standalone dark romance, International Bestselling author, Travis Simmons makes his debut into science fiction. Travis has reached the top of charts in new adult fiction with his love of dystopian fantasy."

My Review:
I received a free copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

Cass is known as an automaton; a lifelike robot. But unlike an Android, she cannot learn and evolve, instead she is all programming.  That is until she begins having memories of a former owner and after being badly abused by her current owner, her nanobots unlock her free will; programming she didn't even know she had.  When she begins to have stirrings of romantic feelings towards her owner's boyfriend, Cass begins to desire her freedom like never before.

I was a bit skeptical when Travis told me he was writing a sci-fi romance.  I mean, seriously, why fix something that isn't broken right?  I decided to read it with an open mind, and I was happily surprised. The story was absolutely amazing and if you liked Isaac Ismanov's I, Robot, you will absolutely love this novel!  The story itself flowed wonderfully, I had a couple of very late nights because I just didn't want to stop reading it.  This is a very creative look at robots and the future, I hated to see it end.  Now I'm eagerly awaiting another new release from this awesome author!

Spinner Book Review and #Giveaway

Synopsis:
Fifteen-year-old Alex is a “spinner.” His friends are “dummies.” Two clandestine groups of humans want his power. And an ancient evil is stalking him. If people weren’t being murdered, Alex might laugh at how his life turned into a horror movie overnight.

In a wheelchair since birth, his freakish ability has gotten him kicked out of ten foster homes since the age of four. Now saddled with a sadistic housemother who uses his spinning to heal the kids she physically abuses, Alex and his misfit group of learning disabled classmates are the only ones who can solve the mystery of his birth before more people meet a gruesome end.

They need to find out who murdered their beloved teacher, and why the hot young substitute acts like she’s flirting with them. Then there’s the mysterious medallion that seems to have unleashed something malevolent, and an ancient prophecy suggesting Alex has the power to destroy humanity.
Pre-Order on Amazon

My Review:

I received a free copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

Alex was given up to foster care after the the untimely death of his parents.  He was then placed with an abusive foster parent, which caused him to continually "spin" his housemates to heal their injuries.  This caused Jane, his foster mother to uncover Alex's special healing gift.  When a package from his biological parents never gets to him, Alex uncovers more than he's bargained for.

This book was amazingly creative.  You can easily sense Alex's inner turmoil at not only being learning and physically disabled, but also having a gift he thinks is a curse.  He is fortunate to have wonderful friends that stood by his side throughout.  I have to admit that during the first 1/3 of the book, I wondered where the story was heading because it had a relatively slow start.  Once you're past that, the story captures your imagination and takes you to a whole new world.  If you can be patient, the story will be well worth the wait.  I absolutely loved it and cannot wait to read something else from this fabulous author!

He went on to earn a master’s in film production from Loyola Marymount University, a teaching credential in English from LMU, and another master's in Special Education from Cal State University Dominguez Hills.

He partnered with two friends as producer, writer, and/or director on several ultra-low-budget horror films, including “Fatal Images,” “Club Dead,” and “Things II,” the reviews of which are much more fun than the actual movies.

He taught high school in Hawthorne, California for twenty-five years, both in general education and to students with learning disabilities, in subjects ranging from English and Strength Training to Algebra, Biology, and Yearbook.

He has also been a volunteer Big Brother to eight different boys with the Catholic Big Brothers Big Sisters program and a thirty-year volunteer within the juvenile justice system in Los Angeles. He is currently outlining a sequel to /Spinner/.

His goal as a YA author is for teens to experience empowerment and hope; to see themselves in his diverse characters; to read about kids who face real-life challenges; and to see how kids like them can remain decent people in an indecent world.
