REVIEW: MAYOR OF CASTERBRIDGE

The Mayor of Casterbridge
by Thomas Hardy
ISBN:  1593083092
Genre: Classic Literature

My Review: I was surprisingly pleased by this book.  Although there were many tragic aspects to this story, I don’t think this was the most tragic book I’ve ever read.  It was sad how Henchard sold his wife and daughter.  Because he does this stupidly drunk thing, it begins a sorrowful chain of events.  I felt pity for poor Henchard but my heart broke the most for Elizabeth Jane.  All of the things Henchard went through is a great example of there being consequences to our actions.  All  in all, this was one of the greatest emotional novels I have read in a really long time.
