Purchase: Amazon | Barnes and Noble

My Review:
This book took me completely by surprise. I felt for Elka as. she learned about the man that had raised her for ten years. I found myself yelling at her every time she got herself in trouble, and cheering her on as she escapes danger. I was also moved to tears as Elka's memories resurface and she realizes her part in the murders. This was a fantastic thriller with lots of of twists and turns. This is definitely one of my favorite reads this year.

Blood Lust Book #Review

Blood Lust (The Blood Sisters Book 1)Blood Lust by Jill Cooper
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I received a free copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

Blood Lust is book one of The Blood Sisters series. Amanda has a very pure heart; completely untainted by the world around her. She has a special gift of healing and feels she needs to heal every lost soul she encounters. Her sister Jessica is her protector. She is in constant battle to keep Amanda safe from the demons that want to corrupt her. Will she be able to save her this time? Where's Aunt Gwen?

This was an awesome page turner. I love a good story of Good vs Evil, and this one certainly doesn't disappoint. I think Jessica lives with a lot of guilt and I really hope that some of that is addressed in the rest of the series. I also enjoy the hint of a reignited romance between Jessica and Duncan. All in all, this was a great book with heart pounding excitement! I can't wait to continue this series!

Guide Me Home #Review

Guide Me HomeGuide Me Home by Kim Vogel Sawyer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I received a free copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

Guide Me Home is a sweet Christian Historical Fiction about the power of prayer. Rebecca wants so desperately to help her family and ease the ache in her mother's heart from losing her only son. While working at Mammoth Cave, she meets the handsome Devlin Bale. Will they be able to overcome their differences? Will Cissy find the love that she desire? Will Devlin find out what is missing in his life?

I absolutely loved this book! Cissy was surprisingly self-centered. She thought that everything was about her. I enjoyed learning about Mammoth Cave and the beauty of God's creation. My favorite character is most definitely Tolly, his faith was so strong. All in all this was a fantastic novel. If you like historical fiction or even a clean romance, this is the book for you!

Purchase: Amazon | Barnes & Noble

My Review:
I received a free copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

The Crimson Tree is a fantastic paranormal mystery to kick off the Halloween season.  Carly's life was going great, she was extremely happy and about to marry the man of her dreams.  That is until that fateful day under the crimson tree.  Will anyone believe the things she claims to see? Will she ever have a peaceful life again?

This was a great story!  I loved how Carly's best friend believed her right from the start.  This was a fast paced novel that had me on the edge of my seat.  The ending threw me for a loop and had me wanting more.  I am definitely a new fan of this amazing author and I'm sure you will be too!

No physician can cure her. No end is in sight. Until she hears whispers of a man whose mere touch can heal. After so many years of suffering and disappointment, is it possible that one man could redeem the wounds of body . . . and soul?

My Review:
I recieved a free copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

The Land of Silence is a beautiful story of one young woman's strength and courage during difficult circumstances. Elianna suffered so much guilt and shame over the death of her little brother. It's bad enough that she blamed herself for his death, but her father not only blamed her but could not find it in his heart to forgive her. She couldn't forgive herself and did everything in her power to end the betrothal to the only young man she has ever loved. She begins delving into the scriptures shortly after her father dies and they are forced to sell the family business.

She finds a loving Heavenly Father but can He find it in his heart to forgive her? Can she ever forgive herself? This is a brilliant story about "the woman with the issue of blood." Her faith was immense! This is a novel that truly strengthen's your faith no matter what you happen to be facing.

About the Cynthia Roberts - My love of reading romance fiction goes back to those early years when I was raising a young family. It wasn't until much later in life I actually took up the pen to write my first historical romance, Wind Warrior. I really don't fit into one specific niche. Once a story starts to flow, it's only then I know what genre/subgenre it will fit under. I have only one regret, and that is not getting to this point in my career much sooner, rather than later. Life has a way of setting up road blocks, which for me, was supposed to work out that way. Because of those detours, I have become a more passionate and expressive writer, allowing me to create the kind of raw human emotion I want my readership to feel. It is my hope you walk away with not just an entertaining read, but the importance in knowing, "Without imagination & dreams, we lose the excitement of wonderful possibilities."

Lily Grimes had it all. She was head cheerleader, the girlfriend of the All-American High School Quarterback, had been accepted to a prestige college near her hometown and the best family and friends a young woman could ask for. Just before Christmas 2004, Dr. Jethro “Jet” Manning, the doctor-in-training for the quaint little town, nearly runs over Lily, who is found unresponsive and icy cold in the middle of a backroad.

Fast forward to 2015 - Lily Grimes finally wakes up and has to face the reality of being in a coma for the past 11 years. A Chilling Absence Post Quote

Excerpt

“I don’t need protecting. I need the truth!” exclaimed Lily. “Yes, I understand. That’s what we are doing right now, Lily. We are discussing the truth.” Dr. Marsden walked over to the window, adjusted the blinds and returned to Lily’s bedside with her arms crossed. “Lily, you suffered a tremendous loss, I understand that, but you also need to know that someone tried to kill you several times over the eleven years. Everything your parents and Dr. Manning have done is to protect you. They love you and right now, that is all you need,” Dr. Marsden said with a softness that Lily had never heard from the rigid, cold woman before. “What do you mean that someone tried to kill me?” asked Lily. “We found numerous drugs in your system at different times, caught a man trying to smother you and your parents received several death threat letters at their home,” said Dr. Marsden. The woman seemed to age about 10 years but a softness came over here that made the woman seem less intimidating to Lily.

About the Author

July 15, 1984. Shelly Oakley (now Maynard) was born and lived in tiny Ashmore, Illinois until 1998 when her parents relocated to Manchester, Tennessee. Starting a new high school and making new friends was hard enough but it was that point in her life where it came time to make life-changing decisions in regards to college, careers, etc. Shelly had spent so much time following in others’ footsteps that she never had a plan for her career. The only dream she’d ever had was to become an author but that was laughed off by family and friends. By 2002, Shelly was in college and switched her major from nursing to teaching and finally business. One year in and she discovered that she was pregnant with her first son. He joined the world in 2004 and was followed by a brother in 2006. During the second pregnancy, Shelly fought demons of a bad marriage and started trying to rebuild her life. She met her (now) husband in the Fall of 2006 and they’ve been inseparable ever since. Her three guys are her entire heart, soul, mind and spirit! After searching for several years, Shelly decided that it was time to find a place to settle in her career. She started working for a local, family-owned steel fabrication company in 2014 and was surprised when she found more than a job – she gained an extended family and friends who provided a tremendous amount of support. Between the support of her husband, children, family and friends, Shelly started writing again. Past demons haunted her but she wanted to set an example for her children and follow her dream through to the end to prove that hard work, persistence and dedication pays off! Living in Lynchburg, Tennessee, Shelly Maynard is your typical mom –she enjoys spending time with her family, friends and for nine of the twelve months per year, you’ll find her at a ball field watching her children. She enjoys front-porch-sittin’ with a glass of sweet tea and the occasional margarita. She loves her morning coffee, a good book and writing for her blog. Chasing Freedom Book #Review

Chasing FreedomChasing Freedom by Marina Fontaine
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Synopsis:
In 2040s America, civility is prized above truth, conformity above free expression, and “green” living above basic human needs. Most have given up, too busy trying to survive in a country where life is cheap and necessities are scarce. Yet even in the midst of drudgery and despair, unbroken spirits remain.

Julie is a girl who has everything, including a plan to ignite the spark of resistance. Randy dreams of winning Julie’s love and escaping the emptiness of over-regulated life. Joseph seeks revenge on the system for a family tragedy. Daniel is a young artist, who can’t seem to stay out of trouble. Chris is an orphan prepared to do the unthinkable to protect his younger sister. Whether by choice or by accident, each will take a path on a collision course with the oppressive regime. Will they find the freedom they desire? Or will the cost of defiance prove too high to bear?

Marina Fontaine is an immigrant from the former Soviet Union. She uses personal experience to craft a novel that takes an intimate look at life in a totalitarian society and the role that individual choices play in advancing the cause of liberty.

My Review:
I received a free copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

Chasing Freedom is an intriguing dystopian novel. Randy and Julie are the leaders of the Rebels as they fight against the government. The government has taken away all freedoms, everyone lives in poverty, food is rationed, and free thinking is forbidden.

This dystopian was as intriguing as it was disturbing. It's extremely plausible, and the continual struggle for a happy life felt real. This novel has lots of action and although there is torture, it isn't graphic descriptions. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I think anyone that enjoyed The Hunger Games will enjoy reading this.

Brooklyn on Fire Book #Review

Featuring historic figures like Andrew Carnegie, John D. Rockefeller, and the Vanderbilt family, Brooklyn on Fire takes Mary on a wild journey from New York City to North Carolina to uncover not only the truth of one man's death, but to unravel the mystery in three murders – with links tied perilously close to her own personal world.

My Review:

I received a free copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

It's the late 1800s, and Mary Handley is a woman ahead of her time. To her parents' dismay, Mary wants to be a detective.  After solving Goodrich case, things have died down and Mary begins to wonder if she will ever get another case...until she is visited by Emily Worsham.  Emily wants to find out the truth about her Uncle's death.  But when Emily turns up dead, Mary begins to unravel a mystery that puts everyone she loves in danger.

This was a great mystery that reminded me of Sherlock Holmes. Mary was a strong independent woman. I enjoyed how realistic her family dynamic was and there's even a budding romance.   I look forward to reading more from this author.

My Review:

I received a free copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

A.D. 33 is the sequel to A.D. 30.  Two years has passed and Judah is still Saman's prisoner.  Maviah has become an integral part of of the leadership of the Thaemond, and has amassed an army of ten thousand.  They plan to attack Kahil and save Judah, but they require a larger army.  Maviah has adopted a little boy that she has saved in the desert and Saba has been teaching him about Jesus.  Now he has been taken and Maviah must bring Jesus' power back to Petra or lose her son.

This was an awesome story of God's forgiveness and how much he truly loves us. I loved the way it was explained that we are in the world but not of it. I learned a lot from this novel, there were some really deep moments.  I think this is a great series to reaffirm your faith in God.

My Review:
I received a free copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

The Calling is book two of The Seer series.  In this portion, a bit of time has passed.  Remko and Carrington are happily married with a sweet little baby girl.  Damien has started experimenting on some of it's citizens and Remko and the others rush in to rescue the believers of Aaron before they are executed.  When the Authority begin to change the execution locations, Remko begins having a crisis of faith as he questions putting his family in danger for something he isn't sure he believes in.

Rachelle Dekker has written a wonderful dystopian series.  I love how Remko's doubts were dealt with.  There are lots of heartbreaking moments, but this series teaches us about God's grace, unconditional love, and to have faith through all circumstances.  This is a great fast paced novel with action, romance, and even a mad scientist! All in all, this was a fantastic book that has something for everyone!

My Review
I received a free copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

Whispers of the Skyborne is the third book in The Devices War trilogy.  In this final portion, Synn has returned to save his people.  Many questions are answered about the origin of the mark.  But has Synn matured enough to take on Ino Nami and Sky City?  His crew is inexperienced and must gain the courage to win the battle.

This was an awesome science fiction novel.  I thought the explanation of how everyone's mark came to be was very creative and quite a surprise.  There's non-stop action and you are easily drawn in and captivated by this intriguing story.  This is a series that all lovers of sci-fi will enjoy.

Rachel McMillan's The Bachelor Girl's Guide to Murder Prize Pack and Facebook Party

Meet best friends and flatmates Merinda and Jem, who launch their own Sherlock Holmes-esque consulting detective business in 1910 Toronto in Rachel McMillan’s The Bachelor Girl’s Guide to Murder. The deaths of young Irish women lead Merinda and Jem deeper into the mire of the city’s underbelly. Merinda could well be Toronto’s premiere consulting detective, and Jem may just find a way to put her bachelor girlhood behind her forever–if they can stay alive long enough to do so.

My Review:
I received a free copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

The Bachelor Girl's Guide to Murder is a unique twist on Sherlock Holmes and Watson.  It answers the question, “what if Sherlock Holmes and his trusty sidekick Watson were women during that era?” Merinda and Jemima are best friends and partners in crime fighting. So when two working class girls turn up dead, and the bigger local papers don't cover the case, Merinda and Jemima try to figure out why. They daringly dress like men and go where ladies shouldn't, all while risking getting caught by Mayor Montague's morality squad.

I'm a huge fan of Doyle's Sherlock Holmes series, so when I read the description of this novel, I jumped at the chance to review it. I love the concept of a female crime fighting duo. Not only is there suspense, action and intrigue, but there's also humor, and a sweet romance. This is definitely one of my favorite novels this year.

If I Run Book Review

Synopsis:
Casey Cox’s DNA is all over the crime scene. There’s no use talking to police; they have failed her abysmally before. She has to flee before she’s arrested . . . or worse. The truth doesn’t matter anymore.

But what is the truth? That’s the question haunting Dylan Roberts, the war-weary veteran hired to find Casey. PTSD has marked him damaged goods, but bringing Casey back can redeem him. Though the crime scene seems to tell the whole story, details of the murder aren’t adding up. Casey Cox doesn’t fit the profile of a killer. But are Dylan’s skewed perceptions keeping him from being objective? If she isn’t guilty, why did she run?

Unraveling her past and the evidence that condemns her will take more time than he has, but as Dylan’s damaged soul intersects with hers, he is faced with two choices. The girl who occupies his every thought is a psychopathic killer . . . or a selfless hero. And the truth could be the most deadly weapon yet.

Purchase: Amazon | Barnes & Noble

My Review:
I received a free copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

Accused of a crime she didn’t commit, Casey Cox is on the run.  She hasn’t figured out how to prove her innocence or who she can trust.  The only thing she knows right now is that she found her best friend, Brent Pace, dead.  She tried desperately to resuscitate him, it was too late and now she’s covered in his blood and her prints are everywhere.  Dylan Reynolds is Brent’s childhood friend, he’s been hired by the Pace family to find Casey.  But as he investigates to get into the mind of an alleged killer, he finds a broken spirit and uncovers more than he bargained for.  Now he doesn’t know who he can trust, will he be able to uncover the truth?

Once again, Terry Blackstock has written another masterpiece!  There’s nonstop action and intrigue as Casey continues to run, heartbreaking moments when her past is revealed and yet somehow Ms. Blackstock manages to remind us of God’s love and how He constantly uses others and situations to bring us to Him. All in all, one of the best reads I’ve had thus far this year.

About the author:
Terri Blackstock is a New York Times best-seller, with over six million copies sold worldwide. She is the winner of two Carol Awards, a Christian Retailers Choice Award, and a Romantic Times Book Reviews Career Achievement Award, among others. She has had over twenty-five years of success as a novelist.

Terri spent the first twelve years of her life traveling in a U.S. Air Force family. She lived in nine states and attended the first four years of school in The Netherlands. Because she was a perpetual “new kid,” her imagination became her closest friend. That, she believes, was the biggest factor in her becoming a novelist. She sold her first novel at the age of twenty-five, and has had a successful career ever since.

Recent books include Truth Stained Lies (Book 1 of her Moonlighters Series), and her acclaimed Intervention Series (Intervention, Vicious Cycle, and Downfall). Other recent favorites include Predator, Double Minds, the Restoration Series, the Newpointe 911 Series, the Cape Refuge Series, and the SunCoast Chronicles series.

In 1994 Terri was writing romance novels under two pseudonyms for publishers such as HarperCollins, Harlequin, Dell and Silhouette, when a spiritual awakening prompted her to switch gears. At the time, she was reading more suspense than romance, and felt drawn to write thrillers about ordinary people in grave danger. Her newly awakened faith wove its way into the tapestry of her suspense novels, offering hope instead of despair. Her goal is to entertain with page-turning plots, while challenging her readers to think and grow. She hopes to remind them that they’re valued by God and that their trials have a purpose.

Ashley Bell Book Review

Synopsis:

At twenty-two, Bibi Blair’s doctors tell her that she’s dying. Two days later, she’s impossibly cured. Fierce, funny, dauntless, she becomes obsessed with the idea that she was spared because she is meant to save someone else. Someone named Ashley Bell. This proves to be a dangerous idea. Searching for Ashley Bell, ricocheting through a southern California landscape that proves strange and malevolent in the extreme, Bibi is plunged into a world of crime and conspiracy, following a trail of mysteries that become more sinister and tangled with every twisting turn.

Unprecedented in scope, infinite in heart, Ashley Bell is a magnificent achievement that will capture lovers of dark psychological suspense, literary thrillers, and modern classics of mystery and adventure. Beautifully written, at once lyrical and as fast as a bullet, here is the most irresistible novel of the decade.

Purchase:  Amazon | Barnes & Noble

My Review:
I received a free copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

Bibi Blaine had an extraordinary imagination.  Born to surfer parents, they encouraged her free spirit and dream of becoming an author.  A strange experience when she was five years old, horrifying enough that she shared with no one but her grandfather Captain, opens the door to something she desperately wants to forget. Now, seventeen years later, she's diagnosed with brain cancer and given a year to live. While in the hospital, she's visited by a man in a hoodie and his beautiful golden retriever. As the dog proceeds to lick her hand, Bibi senses that her cancer is abating. Who is the man? Is it possible that his dog can heal?

Once again, Dean Koontz has drawn me into another world, one where imagination knows no bounds. After about halfway through the book I realized what was happening, but still wanted Bibi to succeed in her mission.  I was at the edge of my seat throughout most of the story and had several sleepless nights from being unable to put the book down.  If you're a fan of Dean Koontz, Ashley Bell is a must read. If you've never read anything he has written, this is a perfect example of the depth of Koontz's creativity.

Rhuna, The Star Child Book #Review

Synopsis:

Rhuna, The Star Child is the thrilling sequel to Rhuna: Crossroads, and is the third book in the Rhuna Fantasy Books series, but each book can also be read as a standalone novel.  Rhuna, the Star Child is set in mystical Ancient Egypt where Black Magic was developed by the followers of the legendary villain, The Dark Master.   As strange and frightening curses plague the population, Rhuna discovers the underground organization that performs this uncanny new magic, but she can only combat it with the help of her long-lost father.   Having learned from her father amazing new skills to empower her on the Astral Plane, Rhuna once again strives to preserve peace and harmony in the idyllic Atlan civilization.

Far more challenging than fighting powerful Dark Forces, however, is Rhuna’s personal anguish when her daughter becomes involved with the leader of the Black Magic movement, and the once-perfect Atlan society based on utopian principles begins to crumble all around her.  Shocking events escalate Rhuna’s world to a breathless climax as she and her family undergo a momentous upheaval, and she is forced to make great personal sacrifices for her loved ones.

My Review:
I received a free copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

Rhuna: The Star Child is book three of the Rhuna Fantasy series.  In this portion a few years have passed, Rhuna and Aridin have a loving home and a daughter named Shandi.  Rhuna uses the Gazing of the Waters to look in on her daughter Lozira's life.  She seems well adjusted to Atlan, and the fact that she's forbidden to communicate with her mother. Suddenly one day Rhuna receives a message from Lozira that she's running away to her mother in Safu.  Apparently things weren't as they seemed and this is where their adventure begins.

Once again it was great to visit Safu. There's lots of action, adventure and edge of your seat excitement. It was interesting to see Goran fall in love and not understand his rush of emotions. It's also great to see Rhuna connecting with her father and learning of his missing years.  All in all, an amazing addition to the Rhuna series and I'm anxious to see what happens in book four.
About the Author:
Barbara was born and raised in Sydney, Australia; the only child of German migrants who provided a rich and diverse childhood environment. Already in third grade she wrote a short children’s book for a class project and realized that she was deeply satisfied with creating stories. In sixth grade, for another class project, her teacher was so impressed by the lengthy story she submitted, that he commented at the end “I see we are going to have another author”.
Over the years, Barbara kept writing one thing or another, but only as a hobby while she pursued other interests and goals. In the 1990s, she completed a correspondence course in professional writing, doing it in her spare time after work. This led to having a few short stories published, but what she really wanted to do was write a proper novel.
At this time, Barbara had travelled extensively and gained a wealth of knowledge and experience in subjects that held special appeal for her, namely ancient history, myths and legends (such as Atlantis, the builders of megaliths around the world), folklore (the belief that a god-like race gave mankind its technology), human psychology and the culture of other countries. What better subject for her Fantasy book series than to combine all these elements into one big adventure!

Happy Chasing Happy Book Blast

Though Jerome "Jay" Isip now enjoys the success of being a professional MMA fighter, entrepreneur, and author, he is no stranger to the feelings of self-doubt, depression, and lack of direction that many people-- young and old, male and female-- struggle with at one point or another in life.

This candid, autobiographical book tells of MMA fighter and accomplished champion Jerome Jay Isip's journey to find his identity and his own version of "happy" in early adulthood through self-destructive means like alcohol, a myriad of drugs, and other risky behavior, and how he pulled himself back from the edge of the abyss, finding the courage to live a life of clarity and purpose after discovering what true, lasting happiness in life is all about.

About the author:

Jerome "Jay" Isip is a successful entrepreneur within several walks of life - finance, small business, e-stock trading, and athletics. Born and raised in Belleville, New Jersey, Jay was never one for academics. Rather than concentrating on coursework, he was instead distracted by the typical trappings other young men endure. Jay has always been more interested in enjoying life and those around him, which isn't going to get anyone accepted at a credible college or university. Even still, through all the self-destructive means and risky roller coaster of behavior, Jay stayed determined to choose his own career path, which would eventually lead him to becoming a business owner, a professional "mixed-martial arts" fighter. And now he has added the title of "author" to the list.
