Gilded Wings Book Tour

Gilded Wings Summary
The Beloved Angel-Warrior Team from Until Next Time Returns!

When Matt and Emily are sent on their second mission they have no idea how truly dark human nature can become...

Emily never wanted to face humans again. With the heartache that went on down below, she’s still trying to figure out how to save souls that don’t deserve saving. The only one she wants to see again is Jason - the young man she fell in love with who became the soulmate she simply can’t forget...

Matt was trained to protect and defend the souls down below. Longing to feel the heartfelt emotions that come from being human, Matt wants nothing more than to have just one life - one chance - to live and love the girl of his dreams...

The powerful team find themselves in a brand new century, living in the Gilded Age of New York City. Emily takes over the body of Anya, a young Russian girl who arrives on Ellis Island after a hideous tragedy. There she meets up with a strangely familiar young man by the name of Drew Parrish, who helps Anya survive in an unknown world of luxury, snobbery and…obsession.

What Anya’s inner angel doesn’t know is that the soul she loves is also back. This time around Jason goes by the name of Max Carrow. Once a quiet and kind boy, he’s now part of the ‘Four Hundred Club,’ and wants nothing more than to be among the most admired as he climbs the shaky ladder of society’s elite.

As two worlds merge, Emily and Matt struggle under the weight of their “Gilded Wings.” Not only will they have to figure out who they should fight to save, but they must also face a romantic choice that could destroy them both.

Anya smiled as Hope continued on.

“They had a tutor for Max, but he was so depressed after his Mama’s death that he didn’t want to go on. I tried to ease the pain for him but he was such a dark lad. Always upset. Thankfully, when Drew came into the house they became best friends. Heck, they were inseparable. What a pair! The heir to an America dynasty being best friends with a poor Irish boy who’d lost his father on the Island.”

Anya’s eyes suddenly filled with tears, knowing now why the look of pain had appeared in Drew’s eyes when young Gregori’s father had been led away.

Hope misunderstood. “Don’t be sad, honey. Drew and Max are fine men now, although Max is still a little odd. Still so young, but he’s already made lots of money like his father. Travels with the ‘movers and shakers’ of this city, boy does he. And, the women! Well, my goodness, you have to beat those girls off with a stick.”

Anya laughed; her back eased into the soft cushions of the bed as she began to feel comfortable for the first time in a long time.

“Well, that’s pretty much the family. You’ll meet Myles tomorrow. He’s so cute. I believe you have a son of your own about his age? Gregori, is it?”

Anya stared into the eyes of the older woman. “He’s my ward. I...well...we came off the Island together.”

Advice to New Authors

Nope. This is not a ‘tooting of my own horn,‘ I swear. In fact, I’m going to begin this blog by letting you know that I have a TON of stuff to learn about the publishing industry. Although I’ve been in it for twenty years, each day offers something brand new that I didn’t know about. (Pin, anyone?) But I’ve also been one of the extremely lucky people in this world who have a huge support network of mentors, teachers, friends, ex-bosses, and a stellar family that supports me. They tell me what’s good, what should be tossed out with yesterday’s newspapers, and even bake cookies for me when I feel like the Captain of the Titanic looking at that iceberg thinking to myself - “Damn, I really should’ve taken that engineering job in the desert!”

With the way the world works, the stresses of daily life - money, bills, work, kids, husbands, wives, relationships, school - are at times so much to handle that sitting down in a quiet place and actually writing becomes something that only Superman can accomplish. You have so much to say and it comes to you, of course, during the day when you’re busy accomplishing another task. By the time you get home and settle everyone where they need to be, your brain is so fried all you want to do is take a hot bath and head straight to bed.

Each writer has their own way of doing things. Some make up a ‘plan.’ These are the truly organized ones that can set aside allotted time periods to write. Some even have plans that - no matter how they feel - they will write at least 1,000 words a day. I admire that. I’m not one of those people. I actually can’t write unless it’s right there! I have to be feeling the characters, the location, the scene, the moment - before I can pour my soul into my story. So…yes, that usually begins at about 2:00 am when all is quiet and it’s just me and the dog sitting in the den. By the time I take a break, it’s 8:00 am and the daily world has to begin again.

My advice? Keep paper with you at all times. Seriously. I have pads of paper in every room (although I swear the pens disappear as if Harry Potter lives in my house). I carry a notepad in the car. Heck, I’d strap one to the dog if I didn’t think he’d eat it. But make sure that no matter where you are, you have that pen and paper combo to immediately put down that idea or character that just popped into your mind.

When you’re all done creating, please find an editor that loves your story as much as you do. Make sure they have a good background and that you get along with them. An editor is a lot like your lawyer - you want to make sure that they are the ‘best’ for you! (And make sure you’re not over-charged!)

When you head into the world of ‘agents’ and query letters. Make sure that your editor helps you with that letter so that it’s not too long. I mean, writers have issues with query letter because they want to talk about their book. They love their book, and considering they wrote 250-600 pages of that book, narrowing the story down to two paragraphs is not exactly an easy feat. And when the form responses come back from those agents that begin: “Thank you. Unfortunately…” do NOT give up. Yes, grab chocolate if need be (that’s just normal), but do NOT automatically think to yourself that if one didn’t like it, the rest won’t either. You have to take into consideration that a form letter, almost 90% of the time, means they never read those three chapters you sent. Believe me! I actually got a letter once that said they “loved my book but could not identify with Julie.” I had no character in my book named Julie, so I kind of got a hint on that one.

And with publishers - there are SO many paths to take nowadays. From indies to small presses to online/eBook presses, self-publishing - look things over. It is very possible that a small press will do far better work for you and your manuscript than a ‘big guy’ would!

In the end, no matter what…do NOT give up! If you believe in your book…then someone out there believes in it, too!

Until Next Time, Everybody,
Amy
